1869 Walking Dress Toile (A90603 21) Part 1 Skirt

1869 Walking Dress Toile (A90603 21) Part 1 Skirt

1 Cut out the pattern (following the grainlines mentioned on the pattern) and the last panels using the measurements given in the instructions and sewn together according to the numbers

The back panels are trimmed to the ends of the front panels

The front panels are lined at the lower edge (measurements given in pattern) and then the hem finished according to the instructions in the pattern

2 The frill sizes are not mentioned in the pattern, however, I calculated the depth and placement of the frill from the illustration and made them with a gathering ratio of 1:1.5

I didn't use the 'grown on' placket, and just made my own by sewing a straight strip of fabric over the seam allowances, fold and sew down - the front side of the placket is attached against the wrong side of the skirt and the back side of the placket extends from the back side of the skirt

Waistband is added (in hindsight, I could probably have gathered a little less across the front and more at the back... I may rectify it, or not... it is just a toile, after all)

(This is a toile and by no means is it an historically accurate construction. It can be used if you are experiencing difficulties with making your pattern)
