1869 Walking Dress Toile (A90603 21) Part 3 Overskirt and Mantilla

1869 Walking Dress Toile (A90603 21) Part 3 Overskirt and Mantilla

Join the overskirt panels together according to the numbers, I changed the pointed shape of the centre front and back by rounding it off a little to make it look more like the illustration.

Add the frill to the bottom edge and then make a placket (I made mine at the left hand side rear seam) and then attach the waistband

Gather up the sides and attach rosettes

For the mantilla, join the two sides together, sew the fill around the outer edge (gathered at a ration of 1:1.5), line the front edge, make the collar and attach it.

Pleat up the back of the mantilla by putting the X's on O and then cover the join with a rosette

Make a straight waistband of the desired length from bias fabric. No pattern given for the back ties, so I just made up some from bias fabric and attached to the back of the waistband, the join will be covered by a rosette, closed with hooks and eyes

(This is a toile and by no means is it an historically accurate construction. It can be used if you are experiencing difficulties with making your pattern)
